Quick Answer

Choose Groomer.io if: You run exactly one van or one storefront, grooming is the entire business, and you text constantly. Above roughly 380 texts a month its unlimited messaging is genuinely cheaper than Pawfinity's meter, and automated ready-for-pickup phone calls are something nobody else ships.

Choose Pawfinity if: You have a second van, a second address, or a second line of business. Pawfinity bills the business once and publishes no per-van or per-location surcharge, so a three-van fleet runs about $104 against $237 — and boarding, daycare, POS and inventory are included on every tier.

The Short Version

Most matchups in this market are decided by per-seat pricing. This one is not, because neither vendor charges per user. Pawfinity gives you unlimited employee profiles and logins; Groomer.io gives you unlimited employees and logins. Hire freely on either. That takes the usual deciding factor off the table entirely and leaves two much stranger ones.

Groomer.io charges for the box you work out of. $99 a month per storefront or van, currently advertised at $79, and inside that box everything is unlimited — texting above all. Your bill moves when you buy a vehicle or open a door.

Pawfinity charges for your service menu. $60 a month whether you groom or you board, $110 if you do both, for the whole business regardless of how many vans or locations sit under it. Your bill moves when you add a line of business — and when you send texts, because Pawfinity meters SMS from the very first message.

So the two variables are your site count and your text volume, and they pull in opposite directions. The surprise is how small the text number is. Groomer.io's $19 price premium buys about 380 Pawfinity messages, which is only around 95 to 190 appointments — a single moderately busy groomer clears that. But the second van ends the argument outright, because Groomer.io adds another $79 to $99 for it while Pawfinity adds a few dollars of message credits.

And underneath the pricing sits a category difference: Groomer.io is a grooming app, deliberately and narrowly. Pawfinity is closer to an operating system for a pet business — grooming, boarding, daycare and training, with point of sale, inventory, time clock and payroll bundled into every tier. For a lot of readers that decides it before a single dollar is counted.

Rows three and five are the entire comparison compressed. Pawfinity gives away sites and meters messages. Groomer.io gives away messages and meters sites. Everything below is working out where those two meters cross for a business shaped like yours.

The Crossover Math

Write both bills out properly before comparing them, because only one of them is the number on the pricing page.

Pawfinity is $60 a month on Groom & Train or Stay & Play, dropping to $55 on annual billing, and $110 on the Royal Package, dropping to $100 annually. That covers unlimited employee profiles, logins, clients, pets, appointments and photos, with no startup or hidden fees. Then add texting, which is metered from the first message on four volume tiers: 5 cents each under 500 messages a month, 4.5 cents from 501 to 1,000, 4 cents from 1,001 to 1,500, and 3.5 cents at 1,501 and up. Royal is the only plan that includes anything free, at up to 250 complimentary credits a month.

Groomer.io is $99 a month per storefront or van, advertised as a limited-time $79 — its help center now states the $79 figure flatly as the price, though the main pricing page still shows $99 struck through, so treat $79 as current and budget at $99. That covers unlimited two-way SMS and MMS on a number the vendor provides, unlimited automated phone calls, unlimited customer and pet records, unlimited pet photos, online booking, smart map scheduling, Clover and Square, online pay and DePAWsits, payroll management and personalized onboarding. There is no messaging meter. The variable is your site count.

Groomers typically send two to four outbound texts per appointment once you count the reminder, the confirmation and the ready-for-pickup message. At that rate, here is how real volumes land:

Your setup Pawfinity Groomer.io Cheaper
1 salon, ~100 appts, ~300 texts $75 ($60 + $15) $79 (list $99) Pawfinity by ~$4
1 salon, ~200 appts, ~600 texts $87 ($60 + $27) $79 (list $99) Groomer.io by ~$8
1 busy salon, ~400 appts, ~1,200 texts $108 ($60 + $48) $79 (list $99) Groomer.io by ~$29
2 vans, ~700 texts $91.50 ($60 + $31.50) $158 (list $198) Pawfinity by ~$67
3 vans plus office staff, ~1,100 texts $104 ($60 + $44) $237 (list $297) Pawfinity by ~$133
Salon plus boarding, 1 site, ~800 texts ~$135 (Royal $110 + $24.75) Not offered Pawfinity — no boarding on Groomer.io

Three conclusions come out of that table, and they matter more than any feature list.

One: at a single site, the crossover is about 380 texts a month. Groomer.io's promotional $79 sits $19 above Pawfinity's $60, and at 5 cents a message $19 buys 380 texts. That is only about 95 to 190 appointments, which a single full-time groomer clears comfortably. If the promotion ends and the rate returns to $99, the gap widens to $39 and the crossover slides out to roughly 870 texts, or somewhere around 220 to 435 appointments. Pay annually on Pawfinity and the $55 rate pushes the promo crossover out to about 480 texts. In other words the answer at one location genuinely depends on which price Groomer.io is charging that week — so check before you sign.

Two: the second van ends the argument, permanently. This is the finding worth the most money. A second vehicle costs $79 to $99 a month on Groomer.io. On Pawfinity it costs whatever texts that van sends — call it $15 to $20. Two vans is already a $67 monthly gap. Three vans with someone answering the phone at base is about $133 a month, roughly $1,600 a year, and it keeps growing. There is no text volume high enough for Pawfinity's meter to catch a second subscription, because the meter tops out at 3.5 cents and a subscription does not. For how these line items compound across the market, see what grooming software really costs.

Three: heavy texters should read Pawfinity's tiers carefully, and Groomer.io's asterisk too. Pawfinity's rate improves with volume, which softens the blow — 1,200 texts costs $48, not the $60 a flat 5 cents would imply. What the vendor does not spell out is whether a month's volume sets the rate for every message in it or only for the messages above each threshold, so treat the figures above as the optimistic reading and confirm with Pawfinity if your volume is high. On the other side, Groomer.io's unlimited has one asterisk: its help center notes that SMS campaigns vary in price by audience size, with an estimate shown before you send. Everyday two-way conversation is genuinely uncapped; a marketing blast to your whole client list is billed separately.

They Are Not the Same Kind of Product

Price is only half of this. The other half is that one of these is a grooming app and the other is a business platform, and no amount of arithmetic bridges that.

Groomer.io does one thing on purpose. Every screen was built for grooming and nothing else, and the product is better for the focus. Automated outbound phone calls telling a client their dog is ready are the clearest example — no other platform in this category ships them, and nobody outside grooming would think to build them. Smart mapping with real-time ETA and departure reminders is the second. Add unlimited MMS, and before-and-after photos on every groom cost nothing, which matters because photo messaging is exactly the habit groomers quietly drop when it is metered.

What Groomer.io does not publish is telling. No boarding. No daycare. No kennel or training. No retail inventory management. If a dog stays overnight or a client buys a bottle of shampoo on the way out, that transaction lives somewhere other than Groomer.io — you can ring it through Clover or Square, but the stock count is your problem.

Pawfinity is scoped like an operating system. The same $60 subscription that books grooms also carries a full point of sale with integrated inventory controls, hardware support, payment processing and stored cards; a time clock wired into commission-based payroll; QuickBooks Connect; Review Booster; secure document storage; and marketing. Those are not upsells on higher tiers — the published feature grid shows the same core toolset on Groom & Train, Stay & Play and Royal alike. Vendors this size usually reserve half that list for a premium plan.

Which leads to the thing most buyers get wrong about Pawfinity: its tiers are not small, medium and large. They are service menus. Groom & Train and Stay & Play cost exactly the same $60; the difference is whether you are taking grooming and training appointments or boarding and daycare reservations. Royal at $110 is the one that does both, and it is also the only plan carrying free SMS credits. So the right question is not how big is my business, it is what do I actually sell — and if you only groom, the $110 plan is money you do not need to spend.

One caveat we will not paper over. Pawfinity's pricing page is explicit that extra logins are free and that there are no startup or hidden fees, and its mobile grooming page says the software handles multiple vans and organizes multiple business locations. What no vendor page states in writing is that additional vans and locations carry no additional charge. Everything published points that way and nothing contradicts it, but it is an inference rather than a quote — so if your fleet is the reason you are choosing Pawfinity, get that confirmed in writing first.

Where Pawfinity Pulls Ahead

Where Groomer.io Pulls Ahead

The Question That Settles It

Skip both pricing pages and answer two things in order.

First: how many vans and addresses do you have? If the answer is more than one, stop — you want Pawfinity, and the margin is not subtle. Two vans is about $67 a month, three is about $133, and it climbs from there. No amount of texting on a metered plan costs what a second subscription costs.

Second, only if the answer was exactly one: how many texts do you send? Below roughly 380 a month Pawfinity is cheaper and hands you a far broader toolset for the money. Above it, Groomer.io's flat unlimited wins, and the more you text the more it wins by. A shop doing 400 grooms a month saves around $29 on Groomer.io and never thinks about a message rate again.

Two cases sit outside the rule entirely. If you board, run daycare, or sell retail you need to count, Groomer.io is not a candidate at any price — it does not do those things. And if your clients do not answer texts, Groomer.io's automated phone calls are worth paying a premium for on their own; if they save you an hour of phone tag a day, $19 a month is not the number that decides anything.

Whichever way you go, export your client and pet data before you cancel anything. Both platforms will import clients and pets; photos and older appointment history are what tend to vanish in a migration.

Bottom Line

This is a broad platform billed once against a focused tool billed per vehicle, and the two meters they run — messages on one side, sites on the other — point in opposite directions.

Pawfinity is the better buy for almost any business with a second anything: a second van, a second address, a second service line, a shelf of retail. It bills the business rather than the box, bundles point of sale, inventory, payroll and QuickBooks into a $60 plan, and its tiers are chosen by what you sell rather than how big you are. Groomer.io is the better buy for the specific shape it was built for — one grooming-only site that texts constantly — where unlimited SMS and MMS plus automated pickup calls are worth more than the breadth Pawfinity is offering.

Count your sites first and your texts second. Then confirm the current rates directly, because Groomer.io's $79 is explicitly a limited-time offer and $99 is the number to budget against, and because Pawfinity's message rate is the line item that will not appear on the plan you signed up for.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Pawfinity or Groomer.io cheaper?

At one location it depends almost entirely on how much you text. Pawfinity starts at $60 a month for the whole business with unlimited staff logins, but every outbound text is billed from the first one at 5 cents, falling to 3.5 cents at high volume. Groomer.io is $99 per storefront or van, currently advertised at $79, with texting unlimited. That $19 gap buys roughly 380 Pawfinity texts, which is only about 95 to 190 appointments, so a single busy shop crosses over fast. Add a second van or a second location and the answer flips permanently: Groomer.io adds another $79 to $99 while Pawfinity adds only the texts that van sends, so a three-van operation runs roughly $104 against $237.

Does Pawfinity charge extra for more vans or a second location?

Pawfinity publishes no per-van or per-location surcharge anywhere on its pricing page, and its mobile grooming page says the software will handle multiple vans with ease, monitor fleet vehicles and organize multiple business locations. The pricing page also states plainly that extra logins cost nothing and that you get unlimited employee profiles, logins, clients, pets, appointments and photos. What the vendor does not do is spell out fleet or multi-site terms in writing on the pricing page itself, so if you run more than one van or address, confirm it with Pawfinity before you sign. Groomer.io is unambiguous in the other direction: its rate is explicitly per storefront or van, and each one is a separate subscription.

How much does texting really cost on Pawfinity?

Pawfinity meters SMS from the very first message on four volume tiers: 5 cents each under 500 messages a month, 4.5 cents from 501 to 1,000, 4 cents from 1,001 to 1,500, and 3.5 cents at 1,501 and above. Only the Royal Package includes anything free, at up to 250 complimentary credits a month. At two to four outbound texts per appointment, a shop doing 200 grooms a month sends roughly 400 to 800 texts and pays about $20 to $36 on top of the subscription. That is the line item to budget for, because it is the one that decides this comparison at a single location.

Which Pawfinity plan does a grooming salon need?

Groom & Train at $60 a month, or $55 billed annually, is the grooming plan. Stay & Play is the same price and covers boarding and daycare, and the Royal Package at $110 a month, or $100 annually, is the one that combines them and adds up to 250 free SMS credits. The tiers are not good, better and best in the usual sense, because the published feature grid shows the same core toolset on all three, including point of sale, inventory, time clock and payroll, QuickBooks Connect and Review Booster. What changes is which kinds of reservations you can take. So pick by your service menu, not by your size, and only pay $110 if you genuinely groom and board.

Can Groomer.io handle boarding or daycare?

No. Groomer.io is a grooming-only product and publishes no boarding, daycare, kennel or training features at any price, and it does not publish retail inventory management either. That is a deliberate choice rather than an oversight, and it is why the product feels tighter than general pet care platforms. But it makes the decision easy for anyone whose business is wider than grooming: if you board dogs overnight, run a daycare floor, or sell shampoo and bows over a counter and want to track that stock, Pawfinity covers it on every tier and Groomer.io means running a second system.

Do Pawfinity and Groomer.io offer free trials?

Pawfinity publishes a 7-day free trial with no credit card required and says there are no startup or hidden fees. Seven days is short for software this broad, so go in with your client list ready to import and a week of real appointments to run through it. Groomer.io is listed as offering a trial in software directories but does not publish a length on its own pricing pages, and its signup flow points toward personalized onboarding rather than self-serve access. Neither vendor requires a contract. Ignore the third-party directory listings that still show Pawfinity at $50 and $90 with a 30-day trial, because the vendor pricing page is the authority and those figures are stale.
