Quick Answer

Choose Groomsoft if: You want the lowest bill and you have staff. $29.95/month covers unlimited users, so a five-groomer salon pays what a solo groomer pays. You'll manage texting as a separate metered cost, and you'll live with an interface that looks its age.

Choose GrooMore if: You want one predictable number on the invoice and a modern app. $49 or $79 bundles your texts, adds QuickBooks sync, loyalty, retail inventory, and real iOS and Android apps — and for a solo mobile groomer it can genuinely undercut Groomsoft.

The Short Version

On paper this looks settled before it starts. Groomsoft asks $29.95 a month. GrooMore asks $49. Cheapest wins, next question.

Except Groomsoft's price isn't $29.95 — it's $29.95 plus texting. You get 100 free messages a month and then you buy SMS packs — and Groomsoft counts client replies against them as well as the texts you send. GrooMore's $49 already has 400 messages inside it. So the honest comparison isn't between two prices; it's between a low base with a metered line item and a higher base with the meter included.

Do that arithmetic and something useful falls out: the gap between these two is usually $15 a month or less, in either direction — not $20 to $50. Which means price shouldn't decide this at all. Two other things should — how many people are on your team, and whether you need the software to look and feel current.

The Text Message Math

Everything about this comparison hinges on one number nobody puts on a pricing page: how many texts your business actually sends.

A typical appointment generates two to four outbound messages — a booking confirmation, a day-before reminder, a "your dog is ready" note, and sometimes a rebooking nudge. Call it three, plus at least one client reply. That makes 100 appointments a month roughly 300 texts sent and 400 messages in total. The distinction matters because Groomsoft's pricing page states that "every text message sent or received is deducted" from your SMS pack, so on Groomsoft the 400 is what you pay for, and its 100 free messages cover about 25 appointments. GrooMore's pricing page does not say whether replies count against its bundled allowance.

Groomsoft charges $29.95/month for shops and $39.90/month for mobile groomers, both including 100 free texts and 100 free email reminders (annual billing raises the text allowance to 500 — worth confirming with them whether that's monthly or annual, because it changes this math considerably). Beyond that you buy packs: 100 for $10, 500 for $25, 1,000 for $45, 5,000 for $200, or 10,000 for $350. That's 10 cents a message at the small end and 3.5 cents at the large end. Auto-reload can re-purchase the same pack on a schedule you set.

GrooMore charges $49/month for Standard and $79/month for Premium, on both mobile and salon. Mobile plans cover one van; salon Standard covers one location and three staff, and Premium lifts that to unlimited staff. Standard includes 400 texts, Premium 800. Multiple vans or locations move you to a custom-quoted Business Elite tier.

Put those together at real volumes — three texts sent and one reply per appointment, with Groomsoft billing both and GrooMore's allowance counting sent texts only — valuing Groomsoft's extra messages at the pack rate you'd actually buy:

Your setup Groomsoft GrooMore Cheaper
Salon, ~50 appts (150 sent, 50 replies) ~$35 ($29.95 + $5) $49 (Standard) Groomsoft by ~$14
Salon, ~130 appts (390 sent, 130 replies) ~$51 ($29.95 + $21) $49 (Standard) Roughly even
Salon, 4 staff, ~130 appts ~$51 (unlimited users) $79 (Premium — staff cap) Groomsoft by ~$28
Salon, ~265 appts (795 sent, 265 replies) ~$73 ($29.95 + $43.20) $79 (Premium) Groomsoft by ~$6
Mobile, ~60 appts (180 sent, 60 replies) ~$47 ($39.90 + $7) $49 (Standard) Groomsoft by ~$2
Mobile, ~90 appts (270 sent, 90 replies) ~$53 ($39.90 + $13) $49 (Standard) GrooMore by ~$4
Mobile, ~130 appts (390 sent, 130 replies) ~$61 ($39.90 + $21) $49 (Standard) GrooMore by ~$12

Three things fall out of that table, and they're the whole comparison.

One: for a salon, Groomsoft is cheaper or level at every volume GrooMore's plans allow. Counting replies narrows it. Around 130 appointments, just inside GrooMore Standard's 400 texts, the two are within a few dollars — GrooMore actually edges ahead by up to about $2.50 between roughly 120 and 133 appointments. Past that GrooMore needs the $79 Premium plan, and Groomsoft's 4.5-cent pack rate keeps it ahead all the way to Premium's 800-text ceiling, though the margin there has shrunk to about $6.

Two: for a mobile groomer, GrooMore wins across much of a solo van's normal range. Groomsoft charges mobile groomers $10 more than shops, while GrooMore charges the same either way. That leaves only about $9 of headroom, and at four billable messages per appointment it is gone by around 70 appointments a month, or about 210 texts sent. From there to about 133 appointments, where Standard's 400 texts run out, GrooMore is the cheaper plan by up to $12. Above that you're into Premium at $79 and Groomsoft is ahead again until roughly 240 appointments — more than a single van usually runs.

Three: the staff cap is bigger than the meter. Nothing in the texting math moves the needle like GrooMore's three-staff limit on salon Standard. Hire a fourth groomer and you're on the $79 plan — a $30 jump for a seat, against Groomsoft's $0. If you're a salon that plans to hire, that single line probably settles this. See what grooming software really costs for how per-seat pricing plays out across the wider market.

One caveat on both sides: bundled monthly allowances of GrooMore's kind normally reset rather than roll over, and Groomsoft's pricing page doesn't state whether purchased packs expire. GrooMore also doesn't publish whether client replies count against its 400 or 800 texts. The table gives GrooMore the benefit of the doubt; if replies do count, its allowances cover about 100 and 200 appointments instead of 133 and 266, which pushes more shops onto Premium and back toward Groomsoft. Confirm both before you buy texts in bulk or budget around leftovers.

Where Groomsoft Pulls Ahead

Groomsoft has been doing this a long time, and its advantages are the unglamorous kind:

Where GrooMore Pulls Ahead

GrooMore's case is that it's a newer product built to a newer standard:

The Question That Settles It

The money is close enough that you should ignore it and answer this instead: are you adding people, or adding polish?

If you're a salon with staff — or about to have staff — take Groomsoft. Unlimited users at $29.95 is a structural advantage that no amount of feature comparison overcomes, and GrooMore's three-seat Standard cap works directly against you. The interface is dated; your groomers will survive it.

If you're a solo mobile groomer, or a shop where the shelf and the reviews matter as much as the calendar, take GrooMore. You're in the one band where it's price-competitive, the native apps genuinely fit a van better, and loyalty, retail, review generation, and QuickBooks are the tools that grow a one-person business. Depending on your volume you're paying anywhere from $12 less to about $15 more a month for all of that, which is a fair trade.

What you shouldn't do is pick on the headline price. $29.95 versus $49 is not the real gap, and choosing on it means you'll discover the texting line — or the fourth-groomer seat — three months in.

Whichever way you go, export your client and pet data before you cancel anything. Both platforms import clients and pets, and Groomsoft includes free data import when you switch — but photos and older appointment history are what tend to vanish in a migration.

Bottom Line

This is the closest matchup in budget grooming software, and it's closer than the price tags admit. Once you value GrooMore's bundled texts at Groomsoft's own pack rates and count the client replies Groomsoft deducts too, a $49 GrooMore plan is worth about $52 of Groomsoft — a rounding error in a business with real overhead.

So the tiebreakers are structural, not financial. Groomsoft doesn't charge for people, which makes it the default for any salon with a team. GrooMore ships the things a newer product ships — native apps, accounting sync, inventory, loyalty, review generation — which makes it the better fit for a solo operator trying to grow rather than just schedule.

Groomsoft's 30-day no-card trial makes this cheap to settle empirically. Load a month of real appointments into it and count the texts and replies they would generate (demo accounts cannot send texts or email reminders, which Groomsoft reserves for paid subscribers), then check that number against the table above. Your messaging volume is the variable that decides this, and it's the one only you can measure.

Both vendors change pricing periodically. Confirm current rates directly before you sign up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Groomsoft or GrooMore cheaper?

Groomsoft is cheaper in most scenarios, but by far less than the sticker price suggests. Groomsoft charges $29.95/month for shops and $39.90/month for mobile groomers, then bills texting separately: 100 free messages a month, with SMS packs from 3.5 to 10 cents per message after that. GrooMore charges $49 or $79 a month with 400 or 800 texts bundled in. Price GrooMore's included texts at Groomsoft's own pack rates, counting the client replies Groomsoft deducts from its packs, and a $49 GrooMore Standard plan is worth roughly $52 of Groomsoft, so the real gap is usually $15 a month or less in either direction. The exception is a salon with four or more staff, where GrooMore's 3-staff cap on Standard forces the $79 Premium plan while Groomsoft stays at $29.95 with unlimited users.

How many text messages does Groomsoft include?

Groomsoft includes 100 free text messages and 100 free email reminders per month on monthly billing, rising to 500 free text messages on annual billing. Beyond the free allowance you buy SMS packs: 100 messages for $10, 500 for $25, 1,000 for $45, 5,000 for $200, or 10,000 for $350 — roughly 10 cents down to 3.5 cents per message depending on pack size. Auto-reload can re-purchase the same pack on a schedule you set. Every text message sent or received is deducted from your pack, so client replies count, and no Groomsoft plan describes texting as unlimited.

Does GrooMore limit how many staff members I can add?

Yes, on the entry plan. GrooMore's salon Standard plan at $49/month covers one location and three staff members. Unlimited staff requires Premium at $79/month. Mobile plans are scoped by van instead — one van on Standard and Premium, multiple vans on the custom-quoted Business Elite tier. Groomsoft doesn't price by user at all, so a five-groomer salon pays the same $29.95 as a solo operator. For any salon past three people, that single line turns a $49-versus-$29.95 comparison into $79-versus-$29.95.

Which is better for a mobile groomer?

This is the one place GrooMore can come out ahead on price. Groomsoft charges mobile groomers a $10 premium over its shop plan ($39.90 versus $29.95), while GrooMore charges $49 for mobile and salon alike. That narrows the gap to about $9, and because Groomsoft deducts client replies as well as sent messages, it disappears fast. At three texts and one reply per appointment the crossover sits near 70 appointments a month, or about 210 texts sent. Under it Groomsoft is cheaper; from there up to about 133 appointments, where GrooMore's 400 texts run out, GrooMore's Standard plan wins by as much as $12. Past that GrooMore pushes you to the $79 Premium tier and Groomsoft is cheaper again at any volume a single van realistically runs. On features, GrooMore's native apps and smart routing suit van work well, while Groomsoft counters with automatic mileage tracking and street-level parking previews.

Do Groomsoft and GrooMore offer free trials?

Groomsoft offers a 30-day free demo account with no credit card required, which is one of the longest no-risk trials in grooming software. GrooMore advertises a free trial and doesn't ask for card details, but it doesn't publish the trial length on its pricing page, so confirm the duration when you sign up. Neither vendor requires a contract.

What does GrooMore have that Groomsoft doesn't?

The clearest gaps are QuickBooks sync, a built-in loyalty program, retail and inventory stock tracking, a review booster for generating Google reviews, and native iOS and Android apps in the App Store and Google Play. Groomsoft runs in the browser at app.groomsoft.com and asks you to add a home-screen shortcut rather than installing an app. GrooMore also feels considerably more modern, which matters most when you're training someone new. Groomsoft counters with unlimited users, automatic mileage tracking, satellite and street-level views for previewing parking, gift cards, MailChimp sync, and a support reputation that consistently outscores the rest of the budget field.
